Ozonetherapy in Dermatoses: 1.5 Year Out-Patient Practice S.L. Krivatkin et al. Sormovo Interdistrict Dermatoveneriological Dispensary Nizhny Novgorod, Russia Out-patient ozonetherapy (OT) was applied to 292 patients suffering from different forms of acne and rosacae - like dermatitis (51), alopecia (15), drug eruptions (3), epidermophytosis pedis (11), eczema (46), herpes (65), lichen ruber planus (3), neurodermitis (21), prurigo (2), psoriasis (26) and arthritis (2), pyoderma (37), scleroderma (4) and venous leg ulcers (6). Five standard forms of OT were used: autohemotherapy minor, intramuscular injections, techniques with the use of plastic bag, ozonized oil and water. As a source of O2/O3 mixture the home ozonizer was used (concentration of O3 - 7-20 mcg/ml). Laboratory control of the treatment was realized by means of available bacteriological, biochemical, clinical, immunological and roentgenological examinations. Summing up the nearest therapeutical results of OT it can be said that OT is high effective in herpes, most forms of pyoderma, acute eczema and epidermophitosis pedis; effective in neurodermitis, acne, scleroderma, venous leg ulcers; promising results were obtained in alopecia, psoriatic arthritis and drug eruptions. Follow-up investigations were also carried out: in most cases OT ensured long or longer than previous traditional treatment remissions. The efficacy of OT was compared with the effectiveness of control treatment (routine autohemotherapy in herpes, traditional therapy in acne): the advantage of OT was shown. As a rule, OT was well tolerated with the exception of a few complaints on painful injections and light dizziness just after the treatment. Only one woman suffering from hydradenitis and diabetes supposedly had an allergic reaction in the form of allergic dermatitis after forth and then fifth treatment. Taking into consideration the efficacy, safety, simplicity, and cheapness of OT we believe that it is worth to be used in out-patient dermatological practice. Publish Date: 1994
